The body may raise cross cultural issues of great complexity. This conference 
features approaches and research related to topics around the body, life and 
death, linguistics, and everyday life. We will discuss cultural concepts of the 
body and life and death, including issues such as body alterations (plastic 
surgery, sex change, piercing and tattoo), eating disorders, health/ Illness, 
body representations in the media, rituals around the body, taboos, 
transitions, ageing, dying and death, metaphors, everyday life.

The Institute of Comparative Cultural Studies at the University of Nottingham 
Ningbo invites papers that come from a range of areas such as visual arts, 
media studies, communication studies, linguistics, literature, cultural 
studies, and sociology.



Instructions for abstract submission:
Papers will be considered on any related theme. Please submit an abstract of 
about 200 words (for a 20 minutes paper) and send as an email attachment in 
Word or PDF to one of the conference conveners.
