The Department of Linguistics and TESOL at The University of Texas at Arlington
invites applications for a tenured position at the Full or Associate Professor rank, starting
August 2008. Specialization in language use in U.S. minority communities and/or
language attitudes toward non-standard varieties of English is required.
Candidates must hold an earned Ph.D. in linguistics or a closely related discipline, and
should have a demonstrated record of: innovative language scholarship (including plans
for future research); exemplary professional service to academia and the larger
community; successful student mentoring, particularly at the doctoral level; and effective
pedagogy. Applicants must be qualified to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in
sociolinguistics, as well as in one other specialization consistent with the department's
curricular mission (http://ling.uta.edu).
Located in the heart of the Dallas/Ft. Worth Metroplex, UT Arlington has been classified
by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching as a Research University /
High Activity. Of the University's 25,000+ students, over 25% identify as members of
historically underrepresented communities, while an additional 11% come from outside
the U.S. to pursue one of 185 degrees offered at the bachelor's, master's, and doctoral
levels, including the M.A. in TESOL, M.A. in Linguistics, and Ph.D. in Linguistics.
