Heritage Language Communities:
Research Approaches, Findings, and Analysis
UCLA: May 16-17, 2008
Professor Terrence Wiley (Arizona State University) will lead a workshop based on the series of demographic projects he directs for the NHLRC. To date, completed studies of language communities include Arabic, Chinese, Filipino, Hindi and Urdu, Japanese, Korean, Persian, and Vietnamese. The workshop will provide teachers and researchers with the opportunity to explore how this project's findings can affect and improve the teaching of heritage languages.
Dr. Kathy O'Byrne (UCLA Center for Community Learning) will discuss opportunities for partnerships with heritage language communities.
A limited number of scholarships will be available.
Application will be posted to the website in January 2008.
