‘Many takers’ for Arabic language in US universities

ARABIC is the fastest growing foreign language taught in the campuses in the US
and almost all universities have Muslim student associations, US embassy’s
cultural attache Stephen Kochuba said yesterday.

“Many Arab students have been given classes to teach Arabic to their student
colleagues or to whoever is interested on campus,” he explained.
Many universities make use of native Arabic language speakers to gain some
teaching experience and share their knowledge.

“Almost every university has International Student Offices, which help
international students in all aspects of living and studying in the US,”
Kochuba said.

Several universities, when they accept international students, would group them
with students from the same country or region in order to make them feel at
ease.

“When the international students arrive at the airport in the US, most
universities will have staff or students waiting for them, based on flight
information provided,” the official pointed out.
