Learning the locals' language

Interest among foreigners in the Shanghai dialect has prompted a dedicated 
course.

While many local parents are concerned that their children are falling behind 
with their Shanghai dialect, there is a group of non-Shanghainese who are 
making rapid progress with theirs.

In a neighborhood committee office in a residential area in Changning District, 
local expats and immigrants from other parts of the country are practicing the 
Shanghai dialect mi diao (noodle) and zao dou (exchange) under the instruction 
of a dedicated teacher.
