Teaching children early encourages learning, says Wardah Khalid

Se habla Espanol? In Texas, it is a requirement that high school students spend 
at least two years learning a foreign language. By the time they reach college, 
however, most of them cannot distinguish between the words "puerto" 
and "puedo," much less remember how to conjugate verbs. 

What good is all this education, then? In order to mitigate forgetting the 
languages taught, schools should begin teaching foreign languages much earlier 
in a student's life when it is easier to learn and recall new information.
