POSITION DESCRIPTION AND DUTIES

 

 

The Teaching English as a Second Language (TESOL) program primarily serves prospective teachers of TESOL PreK-12. The applicant is expected to prepare these teachers for leadership roles in their school and professional communities. Expertise is required in second language and literacy acquisition research, socio-cultural components of language learning, TESOL PreK-12 teaching methodologies for English Language Arts and content area instruction; integrating educational technology, alternative and standardized forms of assessment, teacher supervision, and collaboration with local schools and their communities. The successful applicant is expected to assist in the maintenance of NCATE/TESOL accreditation, teach a variety of courses to master's candidates, and maintain collaborative relationships with both large and small schools and their communities. The development of innovative instructional approaches, publications, special projects, and externally funded proposals is expe!
 cted.

 

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

 

 

Earned doctorate in TESOL, applied linguistics, or a related area; recent experience teaching ESOL in a PreK-12 urban public school; college teaching; research and publication program; evidence of contribution at regional/national/international conferences.
