Professional Development Assistant
Division/Program: Language Testing Division/WIDA
Hours per week: Part-time employment (20 hours/week)
Classification: Research/Program Assistant II
Salary: $18.00 - $20.00/hour
Position Available: July 28, 2008
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:
Assist with research, materials development, and management of online courseware for blended-learning professional development and training products for educators of K-12 English language learners.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Review and edit training materials.
* Upload and maintain course content, including text and video files, in online learning platform.
* Assist with enrollment of educators in online course and assist these participants with technical demands of training applications.
* Prepare and maintain a variety of files and records (e.g., research summary reports, bibliographies, educators' contact information, etc.) in support of professional development and training efforts.
* Follow up on requests for copyright permissions for some course readings.
* Respond to inquiries of administrators, district personnel, and teachers.
* Assist with planning for and organization of video footage.
* Create and summarize workshop and course evaluations.
* Facilitate logistics for training sessions (verify registration, meeting locations, times, etc.)
* Other tasks as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Minimum B.A./B.S. in Linguistics, Education, or related discipline. Masters degree preferred.
Experience: Must have experience teaching or studying to teach English language learners (ELLs) in K-12 in the United States, as well as adeptness with technology. Experience in the areas of online learning platforms (such as eCollege, Desire2Learn, Moodle, and Blackboard), assessment, literacy and/or content area instruction is desirable. A commitment to improving education, particularly for ELLs, is essential. Must be able to work in a team, prioritize work and give attention to detail while meeting deadlines, and have strong written and oral communication skills in English.
