Sioux Falls folds Lakota language into other classes

 

A shift in focus toward younger Native American students means the end of a short-lived Lakota language class in the Sioux Falls School District.

 

Offered as a one-year course to high schoolers each of the past two years, Lakota instead will become part of the Native American Connections classes, taught at the three high schools and five middle schools. Paulette High Elk, who last year taught the language daily at the high schools, now will share class time with all NAC teachers in the district.
