Description:
Presenters Dr. Margo Gottlieb and Dr. Edynn Sato will share their expertise on K-2 assessment of ELLs from two perspectives: classroom-level assessment and large-scale assessment.
Dr. Margo Gottlieb is Director, Assessment and Evaluation, Illinois Resource Center in Arlington Heights, and Lead Developer, World-Class Instructional Design and Assessment (WIDA) Consortium, at the Wisconsin Center for Education Research, University of Wisconsin, Madison. In 2008, she was appointed to the U.S. Department of Education inaugural National Technical Advisory Council (NTAC) and has also served on numerous national, state, and organizational level expert panels. Margo has published an extensive array of materials, including books, monographs, handbooks, manuals, kits, chapters, and articles. Her areas of specialization include creating conceptual frameworks for comprehensive assessment systems, developing language proficiency standards, and designing assessments for English language learners.
Dr. Edynn Sato is the Director of Research and English Learner Assessment in the Assessment and Standards Development Services program at WestEd, as well as the Director of Special Populations for the Assessment and Accountability Comprehensive Center. Her areas of focus include: large-scale, high-stakes test development for general education and English learner students, as well as students with disabilities; alignment and linkage studies; research on access and accommodation needs of special student populations; and technical issues related to the assessment of special student populations. Dr. Sato also provides consultation to states and other organizations related to the assessment and accountability of English learner students and students with disabilities.
