Special Issue On "Current Developments In Form-Focused Interaction And Second Language Development""

 

The Canadian Modern Language Review (CMLR) invites manuscripts to be considered for a special issue on "Current developments in form-focused

interaction and second language (L2) development" to appear in September 2010. Form-focused interaction is defined here as any attempt to draw learners' attention to linguistic forms in the context of communicative interaction, including various forms of corrective and interactional feedback. Much of the published research in this area to date has been descriptive, often concentrating on the existence of corrective feedback in conversational interaction. Fewer studies have explored the exact mechanisms whereby interactional feedback facilitates L2 acquisition. For this special issue, we invite submissions that examine more directly the contributions of form-focused interaction to L2 development. Our aim is to present the latest developments in this area from both theoretical and pedagogical perspectives. We welcome articles in English or French presenting original research on all aspects of form-focused interaction in either instructed or uninstructed contexts, targeting L2 development in any language. Papers submitted should be of interest to CLMR's readers by presenting results that might be applicable in the Canadian learning and teaching context. Submitted articles will be subject to the normal peer review process of the CMLR.

Numero Thématique Portant Sur Les « Développements Récents Dans La Recherche Sur L'interaction Centrée Sur La Forme Et Le Développement De La Langue Seconde »"

 

La Revue canadienne des langues vivantes invite la soumission d'articles pour un numéro thématique consacré aux interactions centrées sur la forme qui paraîtra en septembre 2010. Les interactions centrées sur la forme réfèrent à toutes tentatives d'attirer l'attention des apprenants sur des éléments langagiers dans un contexte communicatif. Elles correspondent, entre autres, à toutes formes de retroactions correctives ou interactionnelles. Les travaux récents publiés dans ce domaine sont essentiellement descriptifs et se centrent souvent sur la présence ou non de rétroactions correctives dans les échanges ayant lieu lors de conversations. Ainsi, peu d'études ont, à ce jour, exploré les mécanismes exacts par lesquels les interactions centrées sur la forme facilitent l'acquisition de la L2. Pour ce numéro thématique, nous lançons une invitation à soumettre des articles qui examinant plus directement la contribution de ce type d'interactions au développement de la L2. Nous souhaitons présenter les derniers développements de la recherche réalisée

autant dans une perspective théorique que pédagogique. Nous accueillerons des articles rédigés en anglais ou en français décrivant des recherches originales portent sur l'un ou l'autre des aspects de l'interaction centrée sur la forme ayant lieu dans un contexte d'enseignement formel ou non et visant le développement de toute langue. Les articles soumis doivent être susceptibles d'intéresser les lecteurs de la Revue canadienne des langues vivantes. Par exemple, les résultats présentés devraient être applicables au contexte canadien d'enseignement et d'apprentissage. Tous les articles que nous recevrons feront l'objet d'une évaluation anonyme par des pairs.

The CMLR/RCLV serves members of the teaching profession, administrators and researchers interested in all levels of English and French as second languages and, in addition, those interested in native and other modern, international, or heritage language programs and issues.
