College graduates head overseas as Plan B for work
Teaching English is one of the most popular options for those who want to live in a different culture and earn a living at the same time. Others have chosen to postpone jobs or school in the U.S. to aid the less fortunate.
For most of her collegiate career, Roxanne Turner figured she would get a job after college and save up to travel later. Things have turned out differently.
In August, Turner will fly to South Korea, where she has signed a one-year contract to teach English at a private school in Seoul. Her salary of 2.9 million won per month (about $3,000) rivals what many of her graduating classmates expect to earn when they land their first real-world jobs.
