Samoan language under threat in New Zealand
Our third most spoken language is under threat, with English "encroaching" on Samoan in the church and home.
Victoria University student Salainaoloa Wilson's masters thesis shows Samoan is being taught less in traditional strongholds.
Kiwi-born Ms Wilson, 26, whose first language is Samoan, delved into the subject after the 2006 census showed the percentage of New Zealand-born Samoan speakers dropped four percentage points, to 44 per cent, in five years.
