Position: Associate Professor of TESOL (Non-Tenure Track)
Department: TUJ/College of Education, Main Campus
Location: Tokyo, Japan.
Contract: The contract will be with TUJ's legal entity in Japan, Temple Educational Support Services, Ltd. but will include a letter of appointment from the Temple University College of Education.
Period: January 2012 through December 2014; renewable by mutual consent
Salary & benefits: Commensurate with experience.
Duties: Teach three graduate courses in spring and fall semesters, with possible summer teaching for additional compensation. Supervise doctoral dissertation writers working in various areas of second-language learning theory and practice and employing quantitative, qualitative and mixed methods. Assist in editing in-house publications by graduate students and in organizing a yearly Applied Linguistics Colloquium.
Qualifications: Ph.D. in TESOL, Linguistics, Applied Linguistics, or a related field. Record of successful teaching and research. Strong history of publications. Doctoral dissertation supervision experience preferred.
Background: The Graduate College of Education's program at TUJ enjoys a reputation as the highest-quality TESOL program in Japan and one of the highest in the world. Since 1988, TUJ has graduated over 1,200 master's degree and doctoral students. Most of our graduates have remained in Japan, improving the general level of foreign language education. The successful candidate for this position will be expected to maintain and enhance this tradition.
