Assistant Professor - Tenure Track
Department of Education (Language Teaching and Learning)
Hobart and William Smith Colleges seek candidates for a tenure track position, at the rank of Assistant Professor, to teach in an innovative liberal arts based Teacher Education Program. The successful candidate will teach liberal arts courses in education in his or her field of expertise as well as seminars for students pursuing teacher certification. He or she will also supervise elementary and secondary student teachers, advise students in the Teacher Certification Program, and have an opportunity to participate in the Colleges' General Education and Abroad Programs.
The successful candidate must have a Ph.D. or Ed.D. with a strong background in language education, linguistics or a related field, experience teaching in K-12 settings, an ability to teach both pedagogical and liberal arts courses in education, and a clearly defined scholarly interest. ABD candidates will be considered. Expertise in one or more of the following areas is desired: Teaching English to Speakers of Other Language (TESOL), Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL), and multiple languages. Experience supervising student teachers and an interest in promoting diversity within the Teacher Education Program are also desirable.
The Education Department at the Colleges is noted for its field-based teacher education program that is anchored in a liberal arts curriculum. The Department also enjoys close relationships with area schools, including the Geneva City Schools, which have a highly diverse student population. Education faculty are teachers, active scholars and public servants who constantly combine teaching, scholarship and service as means of helping others reflect upon their own intellectual concerns and social responsibilities.
