February 21 is International Mother Language Day
The 2012 International Mother Language Day celebration highlights the theme "Mother tongue instruction and inclusive education," which is very relevant to the country as it is ready to implement next year the full shift to the mother tongue as part of the phased implementation of the K-12 (Kindergarten to 12 years) program, which aims to develop highly qualified Filipino high school graduates by decongesting a crammed curriculum and giving them more time to learn through an additional two years.
