The Department of Language Studies, University of Toronto Mississauga (UTM) invites applications for a tenure-stream appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor in Linguistics. The appointment will begin July 1, 2017.

We seek candidates whose research expertise is in sociolinguistics, with a focus on one or more of the following areas: language variation, language contact, English-based creoles, code-switching. English must be the primary language of research focus. The successful applicant will be expected to develop and maintain an active, externally funded program of research and to contribute to the education and training of undergraduate students as well as graduate students.

The successful candidate should have a Ph.D. in Linguistics by the start date of the appointment, or shortly thereafter. He/She will be able to demonstrate evidence of excellence in both teaching and research. Excellence in research will be demonstrated by publications in top ranked and field relevant academic journals, presentations at significant conferences, awards and accolades, and strong endorsements by referees. Evidence of excellence in teaching will be demonstrated through teaching accomplishments, letters of reference and the teaching dossier submitted as part of the application. The successful candidate will undertake undergraduate teaching at all levels along with graduate teaching and supervision. Candidates must have a demonstrable ability to teach core undergraduate courses from a generative grammar perspective.

Salary to be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
