Melinda:  In response to your appeal for reading in your field, I hope the
References below are helpful.  They are just some, abstracted from the very
full Bibliography I compiled in the writing of my MA Dissertation entitled:
An Exploration of Contrastive Rhetoric as an Instrument for Bilaterial
Cultural Awareness Raising, with Reference to the Academic Writing of
Non-Native Speakers (NNSs) in British Higher Education.  
You will note the dates.  In that regard I want to underline also two
decades, 1970-1990 and a few years either end, as a hot-house era with
thousands of hotbeds of literatures globally, on cultural awareness within
contrastive language and assessment issues. Global pedagogy was at its
scholarly and research pinnacle.  After 1998, other things (economics)
displaced research within interdisciplinary areas across  'my' field.  The
millenium saw further dwindling to the extent that you'd think all 'issues'
are resolved - the opposite is true.   So I'm so happy, it's truly good news
to read your email - wonderful to witness a possible resurrection  'in the
field'.  Excellent, well chosen!  You have made my week - because all
inter-linked language-culture areas are more relevant than ever.

I'm teaching an undergraduate course entitled, "Cross-cultural communication
for teaching second language learners" this fall (for the first time in
several years). The course is for both education and non-education majors.
