[Edling] call for chapters: Learning to do research multilingually

???Dear Edling members,
I would like to invite you to submit your chapter proposal for an edited book entitled Learning to Do Research Multilingually. In our current world of highly mobile and interconnected academic researchers, the need for understanding approaches to doing research multilingually keeps growing. While many research endeavors focus on topics pertaining to multilingual subjects and their lives, research training programs for academic researchers frequently overlook the process of doing the research with one or more languages. So, researchers, and particularly novice researchers, must find ways to deal with the questions that arise regarding their work without recourse to a robust body of literature on researching multilingually. The challenges of researching multilingually that arise-from questions about validity, about adaptations of methodologies, or about negotiating academic policies-have not been captured in textbooks about the process of doing research. However, recent shifts in attitudes and beliefs about the role of English in research training in research-intensive doctoral institutions have encouraged more researchers to incorporate more languages into the planning, execution and reporting of their work. This edited collection explores these changes, and the challenges that practitioners have encountered, through first-person, translingual, multilingual or autoethnographic accounts.
We invite contributions from new and experienced multilingual researchers that provide first-person narratives or autoethnographic accounts of experiences with the following issues:
· Literacy brokering in academia;
· Multilingual communicative practices in academic research;
· Negotiating research policies in monolingual and multilingual contexts;
· Trust-building with research subjects, mentors, and audiences;
· Interactions with advisors, committee members and university gate-keepers, including administrators and university human-subjects review committees;
· Interviewing multilingual subjects;
· Translating and transcribing multilingual data;
· Adapting current research methodologies to multilingual data;
· Presenting multilingual research;
· Reporting and publishing multilingual research; and,
· Issues with research ethics, access, legitimacy, equity and fairness around the choices that multilingual researchers must make when they determine their research settings.

To be considered for inclusion in the volume, please submit the following two documents by December 31, 2018 to multilingualresearch18 at gmail.com<mailto:blsamuel at iu.edu>:
1. The first document should include a working chapter title and 500-word abstract. The name of the document should be last name of each author and should include the word "ABSTRACT" (in all CAPS). Example: "Samuelson & Silvhiany ABSTRACT"
2. The second document should include the working chapter title, author name(s) & 100-word biography for each author. The name of the document should include the same shortened version of the title and should include the word "BIO" (in all CAPS). Example: "Silvhiany BIO"
Invitations to complete full manuscripts (7000 words inclusive of footnotes and references) will be sent out by February 15, 2019. Invited full manuscripts will be due by May 1, 2019. Questions/inquiries should be sent to blsamuel at iu.edu<mailto:blsamuel at iu.edu>
