Dear edling and lgpolicy lists' family,

I thought about sharing this poem with you all as a reflection in memories
of professor Bernard Spolsky and a moral support of those in the fields who
had the privilege to closely work with him. - David Balosa

*When A Big Tree Falls - Poem*

When a big tree falls,

Sadness covers the entire forest

More tears for the trees in its surroundings

Yet still tears in the global ecology.

Sadness, tears, void, shocks,

Memories no one can displace and replant!

When a big tree falls,

Sadness covers the entire forest

More tears for the trees in its surroundings

Yet still tears in the global ecology.

Like these big trees,

So, are gone—Terry and Spolsky!

Sadness, tears, void, shocks

The sun may not shine over

This deep night of sadness!

Oh, my heart - breaking down!

Oh, my friends- hugs of support!

Global language ecologists

Existential sociolinguists

Linguists, interculturalists, and relatives in the fields

Terry and Spolsky are gone physically

But live with us spiritually, interculturally

Friendly, and philosophically.

Like the African Tam-Tam

May this poem comfort our mind,

Our feet, our hands, and our souls.

Let’s stand up and sing and dance

To symbolically cry and celebrate

The memory of the protection provided by a big tree!

The world would be a better place if we all strive for existential unity:
communities' prosperity, social justice, peace, faith, global solidarity
and diversity, human rights, and human dignity for all. -David Balosa
