Subject: Re: [Edling] Remote University teacher Thank you Jessie, Myrna and Davies, your feedbacks were very helpful to me Thank you Jessie for your goodwill to help !For Myrna recommendation, I do not think I wish to be a TESOL teacher , my aim is to be expert in my research area which is linguisitics and bilingual studies , and to stay LOCAL as she said .I do not regret having rejected great job offers abroad because it is better to prosper inside one's country , keeping balance with international academic events . That is why, I find wierd sometimes where geographical barriers impede us to share knowledge and experience with scholars . I love my work , that is why seeking excellence is a part of my personality and has nothing to do with any promotion and for me , an online collaboration will be the best solution to keep up with international scholars and create some extra income.

Hi all,
Access and voice are important topics and themes as the academic divides continue to be shaped by the dominance of a Global North mind-set not to mention assumptions about English. I agree with Myrna's advice for you, specifically in your situation. And with the issues that you and David have raised. I wish I could be of more help in this material moment. I promise to think about what avenues might open.

Dear Amel,Thank you for your prompt reaction to my answer or comment to your question. I also like the comment made by Myrna about the way the academic world and everything else works today or in the age of what I call econotechnocracy!. Myrna's comment makes me think about what it means "to stay local" today in the time where the world is openly divided into power struggle in the age of BRICS and G7 or the Global North and the Global South?I wonder how this divide is affecting us in academia. Should we stop looking at the model Western Universities versus non-western universities but develop a new mindset in regard to our contribution to academia. I think we are living in a very difficult age, an age of " a global power restructure crisis" . This crisis affects all sectors of life (including academia). We may start looking at other worlds such as Latin America, Asia, and Africa as well.
I Understand the sad consequences of the symbolic violence and the reality created by colonialism. Success, excellence, and prestige are associated with the Western world. More money, better technology, superior quality of life . Probably by exercising hope, patience, courage, the spirit of sacrifice, and joy in what we are possibly doing, better day may surprise us.. How can one persevere in research and academia without resources-- money, technology (publishers), etc? Here again, comes the notion of econotechnocracy!!!
Yes, dear Amel, c'est vraiment compliqué ce monde! il faut regarder ou tenter ses chances à travers "les mondes" - c'est -à -dire partout où c'est peut être possible.

You're not the only one, Dr. Amel. After I received my MATESL in the U.S., I searched for eight years for a Ph.D. program that would accept me and my research. Nobody even answered any letters.
Unfortunately, this is the way of the world.
I would stay as local as possible if I were you. Do your work because you are passionate about it.
Sincerely,
Myrna

Dear List members,
I am an Algerian scholar, full professor of linguistics and language dynamics ; with considerable record of academic international publications .I would like to know why is it mission impossible for an African internationally recognized scholar to find a remote position in a university or be accepted in a visiting professor program located in the western world? I am looking forward to hearing your comments, suggestions and some tips .
Best,
Amel Algeria
Dear Amel, I would be specific and say an African scholar located in Africa! They way you put it sound like there are no African visitors or full professors with your credentials in Western Universities.
Second, I think there are many factors to take into account (1) the visiting or full professorship has become almost impossible mission within the western universities for the Western citizens or scholars themselves. Position cut, départements closing, econotechnocracy phenomenon!(2) Some African scholars located in African have been denied visa entries in some western countries for political or bilateral no existing relations with the inviting countries.(3) we live in the age of econotechnocracy, it is no longer academic credentials that matter nor political competence and better qualities, but economic and technological power! Most professors of your prominence will tell you that it has become almost mission impossible to find an assistant professor position for new ph.D. not because of any discriminatory attitudes or mindset but NO MONEY!
As you may know Professors in Western Universities have also the responsibility to go after money / grant writing for their departments, most departments are also politicized!
It is just a phenomenon of sociopolitical and intellectual global order degradation! Those African, Asian, and western Universities that are doing well thanks to the money inherited from donations and their governance subsidies, have to run that money with strict management recommendations! It is tough everywhere my brother! Only Hope and self-fulfillment mindset can help one keeps the joy and courage required to prosper and actively contribute in academia today!
