Dear colleagues,

We would like to share an opportunity that may be of interest to
postgraduate researchers and students whom you may be teaching or
supervising within the Language Policy and Applied Linguistics community.

Oxford University Press is launching the first annual Oxford Test of
English Learner Corpora (OTELC) Research Competition, inviting proposals
from master’s students, recent master’s graduates, and PhD students working
in *linguistics*, *corpus linguistics*, *language assessment*, and *
related areas*.

The competition offers participants access to authentic learner response
data from the *Oxford Test of English*

creating opportunities to conduct original research on second language
assessment, learner language, corpus-informed pedagogy, and related themes.

*Participants will receive*:
Free access to the Oxford Test of English Learner Corpora (OTELC)
An opportunity to develop research using authentic learner data
A chance to win a 13-inch iPad Air
Publication of the winning research project on the Oxford English
Assessment Research webpage
*Eligibility*:
Applicants should be:

   - Enrolled in a master’s programme, a recent master’s graduate, or a PhD
   student
   - Taking or have taken courses in linguistics, corpus linguistics,
   language assessment, or related disciplines

Applications should include:

   - A research proposal outlining aims, research questions, and intended
   use of the OTELC
   - A supporting reference letter from a tutor or supervisor confirming
   academic suitability

Sunday, 31 July 2026

We particularly welcome proposals exploring the intersection of corpus
linguistics and second language assessment, as well as projects with
pedagogical or applied implications.
