The
Transparent
Language
Systems
offer
is
about a
>language-learning
environment,
a very
different
suite
of
software,
which

to be
much
less
exhaustive
in
terms
of
grammar
and

more
user-friendly

Thanks
Nick
for
your
comment.
I had
in fact
not
seen
the
whole
array
of
"embedded"
web
pages
with
regard
to the
The
Endangered
Languages
Preservation
and
Revitalization
Project
by
Transparent
Language,
Inc.
After
your
comment,
I took
a
closer
look at
the
site
and
have
downloaded
all of
the
information
on this
project
to my
computer
and
will
look
more
closely
at it
over
the
weekend,
with a
possible
reply
to the
ELL
afterward.
I was
coming
from
the
perspective
that
Transparent
had
launched
the
project
from an
MT
debate
back in
October.
I know
that
this is
the
debate
that
led
them to
push
for
this
promotional
activity.
Having
myself
been
very
involved
in the
development
and
implementation
of
electronic
bilingual
dictionaries,
spellcheckers,
OCR
software
apps,
Workflow
systems,
speech
recognition,
speech
synthesis,
data
collection,
and
other
computer
assisted
authoring,
translation
and
language
learning
systems,
I will
read
the
Transparent
info in
more
detail
and
give a
little
more
feedback
to ELL
on the
Transparent
offer.
Again,
my
point
of view
is not
that
this is
"the"
way to
approach
the
issue
of
preserving
languages.
It is
"a"
proposed
way.
I've
seen
technologies
successfully
implemented
for
some
minority
languages,
but
this is
not
necessarily
the
case
for
every
possible
language.
My
intent
is to
be the
liaison
of
information
about
what is
necessary
and
realistic
for the
development
of such
systems
while
also
having
practical
knowledge
in
working
with
minority
languages.
The
paper
that
Kevin
Lenzo,
Chris
Hogan,
and I
presented
at
ICSLP
(indicated
below)
provided
comparative
statistics
with
regard
to the
rapid-development
of
systems
for
Spanish,
Croatian,
Korean,
and
Haitian
Creole
at
CMU.

soon
