Dear Dave,
Thank you for your off-list enquiry (encluded below) about the Akha
Baptist script.
I asked my friend about what I wrote, and he said I made
the mistake
that you pointed out about the 'J'. 'J' is a voiced stop
(africate
actually). There is a 'Y' symbol for the palatal continuant. I
also
left out two phonemes: 'ts' and 'dz', which are
alveolar/palatal
affricates. Akha rules about upper and lower case similar to
English.
So the system should look like this for the Baptist Akha
script.
The script uses symbols like the following.
The consonant symbols arranged from bilabial through
glottal are:
p py t ts c k k' ?
b by d dz j g g'
s sh
z
m my
n ny ng
l y
I replied on-list because I gave
everyone there the wrong
information
and I'd like to correct it.
Tom Tehan

Just curious about J in the chart below. Why is it listed in the voiced
stops and liquids rows? Are there two phonetic values for J? Just curious.
Thanks for sending this orthography. I'm very curious to see Matthew
MacDonald's orthography, as well.
Thanks,
Dave Harris
