INVITATION TO REGISTER

Come to the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, a major center
of literacy studies located near the homeland of Sequoyah, father of
Cherokee literacy.ÊThe Foundation for Endangered Languages' 4th
conference will be held there from 21 to 24 September 2000.

The conference welcomes all who are concerned about the role of
literacy in the future of smaller languages. It will provide a forum
for researchers and activists working for the maintenance of
indigenous languages that face an uncertain future.

There is a discount of $25.00 (twenty-five U.S. dollars) for
registrations made before July 31, 2000. Early booking is also
recommended to get one of the places on our visits to the Catawba
Indian reservation, the Summer Institute of Linguist's jungle
aviation research station, and the Gullah-speaking community on the
coast of South Carolina.

There are lower rates for speakers, students, those unwaged, and
residents of countries with lower per-capita GNP.

In addition, there will be limited free housing available for
students, unwaged, and residents of countries with lower per-capita
GNP in private homes during the conference. This housing will be
provided by faculty of UNC-Charlotte and will be available on a
first-come, first-serve basis. Registrants who are interested in
being considered for free housing should select Option 1 on the
registration form. If free-housing is provided, registrants will be
refunded the hotel-portion of the fee at the conference.

There will be a volume of proceedings distributed at the Conference.

You can find details of the Conference's scope and aims, programme,
and a registration form, at the Foundation's new web site
(www.ogmios.org), specifically on page:
http://www.ogmios.org/2000.htm

If you have difficulty to accessing this for any reason, please
contact the FEL President for a copy of the form directly, as below.
