e-prime on laptop - timing problems

Hi,
I have installed E-prime 1.0 on a dell laptop and I have identified timing
problems after running the Refresh Clock Test. I turned off all other
applications visible through <ctrl+alt+delete> and I still have missed
ticks. Sometimes this takes place when the fan of the laptop is operating
(!!!), but sometimes not. I have run my experiment and checked the onset
delay in each trial. The range is in general 4 to 14ms, but within a
specific block the range is 50 to 90ms. This covers approx. 10% of the
trials. I could eliminate these trials, but 10% is quite a lot.
I am sure that other people have faced similar problems. Any ideas how you
managed to solve them?
