Code to enable input from a Serial Response Button Box

Dear all,

I would like to collect RTs through a microphone that is connected to
a serial response button box. I was told that I need to use a code
(script?) to be able to enable the button box as an input device for
the appearing image I want the response to be given to. Could you
please suggest a way to do that?
