max count to reference value of in-line scrcipt variable

Hi, 

I need the max count (of responses to an object) to reference the value of 
a variable in an in-line script. As I understand, I will need to set an 
attribute for e-prime to reference a variable. Can someone tell me 

A) if the max count can reference an attribute and 
B) help me out with a bit of code that would create an attribute who's 
value changes based on the value of another variable who's value changes 
with each trial? 

**apologies if this has been answered elsewhere or is totally obvious!
