Please note that the following paper is now in print:

Miller, Derek B. and Lisa Rudnick (2010), "The Case for Situated Theory in Modern Peacebuilding Practice", in the Journal of Peacebuilding and Development, Vol. 5 No. 2.

For the time being, it can also be found on Academia.edu (search for Derek B. Miller).

This paper will be of particular interest to those attending to the means of application for ethnocomm to a particular problematic in public policy, like peacebuilding. This paper briefly introduces the Security Needs Assessment Protocol project from the United Nations Institute for Disarmament Research, which was an innovation initiative to explore the possibilities for "best process approaches" to designing cooperative, local action on matters of peace and security. Among others, members of the SNAP Advisory Group included (in no order), Gerry Philipsen, Donal Carbaugh, Ron Scollon, Tamar Katriel, and Kwesi Yankah.

The SNAP project has been succeeded by The Policy Lab (www.thepolicylab.org), which is a policy design institute dedicating to bringing rigorous and cooperatively generated knowledge and ideas to the design of local action. Please visit us if you have a moment.

Derek Miller
Director, The Policy Lab
