Dear Colleagues,
This is a quick reminder for you to complete the survey below if you have
interest in attending The Ethnography of Communication: The Ways Forward.
Preliminary planning has begun for a conference locally hosted by Jay
Leighter at Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska. The tentative dates for
the conference are June 10-14, 2012. This avoids ICA, Memorial Day, Father's
Day, some graduations and other potential complications as far as we know.
The summer of 2012 will mark the 50th year anniversary of Dell Hymes' 1962
publication, "the ethnography of speaking." It also marks the 25th
anniversary of Gerry Philipsen's 1987 chapter, "The Prospect for Cultural
Communication." There are other milestones led by scholarship, collegial
relations, friendships, and so on that warrant a gathering of those with
ties to the ethnography of communication.
Let us hear from you by filling out a 3-question survey asking for your
interest, contact information and input. The information we seek will be
helpful for initial planning and, perhaps, seeking some funding and support
for the conference.
