Hi Ethnocommers,

There is less than a week to go until the first Ethnocomm e-seminar! Let me share with you a sense of how this event is going to play out.

Timeline

Feb 1: Wendy Leeds-Hurwitz posts her response to Tamar Katriel's essay (http://bit.ly/1PKOaUG).
Feb 1-17: subscribers participate in the discussion of Tamar's and Wendy's essays
Feb 17: Tamar responds to Wendy and subscribers
Feb 17-22: final round of comments and discussion
Feb 22: e-seminar ends

Tips for participation

1. Don't be shy - everyone is welcome to participate.

2. Please keep your contributions to 1,000 words or less.

3. The use of citations and references in your responses is acceptable but not absolutely necessary.

4. As you respond, please don't change the subject line ("e-seminar" or "Re: e-seminar"). This will make it easier to retrieve contributions from the archives.

5. To post a response or comment, reply to a previous comment or send an email to ETHNOCOMM at listserv.linguistlist.org<mailto:ETHNOCOMM at listserv.linguistlist.org> .

6. As much as possible, try to avoid sending large attachments to the list. Linguist List doesn't handle large attachments very well.

7. Your response may not post to the list immediately. In order to block spam I (DBH) have to approve all messages sent to the list, and I can't always be near my computer/phone.

8. If you wish to change your subscription settings or unsubscribe in the course of the e-seminar please do so using this link: http://listserv.linguistlist.org/mailman/listinfo/ethnocomm .

This is our first e-seminar, which means that I am expecting the unexpected. If you see any issues or have any questions during the e-seminar, please email me off-list at dbh at colorado.edu<mailto:dbh at colorado.edu> .

Cheers, David
