Description:

The University of Manchester invites applications for the post of
Lecturer in Linguistics which is tenable from 1 September 2003.
Applications will be considered from those specializing in any
branch of linguistics; preference may be given to candidates whose
research relates to one or more of the following: language
endangerment, field linguistics, language change. Salary will be on
the Lecturer A scale, £22,191 to £25,451 p.a.

Candidates should have:

(A. Essential)
1. outstanding research potential and the proven capacity to
contribute to a department of international research excellence.
2. a robust research plan up to and beyond the next RAE (Research
Assessment Exercise).
3. a completed (or about to be completed) PhD in any area of
linguistics.
4. a strong commitment to high-quality, research-led teaching.

(B. Desirable)
1. a research record and plans which relate to one or more of the
following: language endangerment, field linguistics or language
change.
2. excellent presentational skills necessary for lectures, seminars
and small group teaching.
3. good organizational skills appropriate to departmental teaching and
administration.
4. good IT skills.

The appointed candidate will be expected to contribute to research and
teaching (both undergraduate and postgraduate) in the Department of
Linguistics, and to undertake such administrative, pastoral, and other
duties as may be assigned.

Applications should be returned by Monday 14th July 2003.

names of three referees. Those invited for interview will be asked to
give a presentation of their work to members of the Department.
