[etnolinguistica] Honra da Linguistic Society of America para Prof. Aryon Rodrigues

E com grande satisfacao que relato para os leitores desta lista que a
Linguistic Society of America, na sua reuniao anual em Boston,
Massachusetts, EUA - por aclamacao -  aceitou o Professor Aryon
Rodrigues como membro de honra da sociedade. Esta honra e descrita
assim na constituicao da LSA: "Any foreign scholar of distinction in
linguistics studies, not resident  in the United States, may be elected
an honorary member by the Society on recommendation of the Executive
Committee. The total number of honorary members  shall not exceed
sixty, and not more than three may be elected in any one year. " Esta
honra e uma das maiores da Linguistic Society of America e so ha dois
outros membros de honra da America do Sul (Rodolfo Cerron-Palomino, do
Peru e Ana Maria Barrenechea da Argentina) na lista atual.

Posso estar enganado (e enviei uma carta a LSA para verificar isso) mas
acredito que o Prof. Aryon e o unico brasileiro a receber esta honra na
historia da LSA.

Parabens para o Prof. Aryon, que tem servido de exemplo para todos nos.
Incluo abaixo a carta oficial que foi lida e aprovada pela LSA em
Boston, resumindo um pouco da carreira do Professor Aryon.

Aryon Dall'Igna RODRIGUES

	Aryon Dall'Igna RODRIGUES, Professor Emeritus, University of Brasilia.
  By general consensus the world's leading authority on Amazonian
languages.  Has founded the Departments of Linguistics in several
Brazilian universities.  Renowned for his work on the morphosyntax of
indigenous languages, as well as their historical interrelationships.
Sensitive to the ethnolinguistic dimensions of minority languages.  A
brilliant fieldworker and inspired teacher.

	Aryon Dall'Igna Rodrigues received his doctorate in linguistics from
the University of Hamburg in 1959, with a dissertation entitled
"Phonologie der Tupinamba Sprache".  He has taught at several Brazilian
universities, where he was instrumental in founding Departments of
Linguistics, including the State University of Campinas, the Federal
University of Rio de Janeiro, and the University of Brasilia.  He has
carried out extensive RESEARCH on the indigenous languages of Brazil,
and is THE LEADING AUTHORITY ON SEVERAL OF THEM, including Guarani,
Nhengatu, and Tupinamba.  His book "Linguas Brasileiras: Para o
Conhecimento das Linguas Indigenas" (1986/1994) is the standard general
reference work on Brazilian languages.  He is the author of dozens of
articles on all aspects of these languages, synchronic and diachronic,
grammatical and phonological, ethnolinguistic.  He is a distinguished
teacher who has done much to train new generations of Brazilian
linguists.
