Dear Colleague,

Since December 2008 I am coordinating a research project (with several
students at UFPE), which has as main objective to give more visibility to
nearly 3,000 objects from the Ethnographic Collection Carlos Estevao de
Oliveira from the Museum of the State of Pernambuco (learn more about this

We are digitilizing the collection (objects, documents and photographs) and
puting it available to watch online in a Virtual Museum, which can be viewed
on this site: http://www.ufpe.br/carlosestevao. Recently we finished to scan
most of the photos of the collection (approximately 1,200) to be available
soon in this virtual museum. Many of these photographs are of Curt
Nimuendajú, and these can be easely identified, because Nimuendajú had an
accuracy in identifying their photos. However, there is a significant number
of photos that are not identified. We can imagine the places of the photos,
and the year by analizing the photografic material. There are pictures that
range from 1909 to 1947. Therefore, we decided to set up a blog with about a
hundred of these photos. We are providing these photos for you to opinion,
to comment and possibly identify... give us a sugestions ... etc. The blog
is a tool for identification,certainly you have already seen some of these
pictures in other places such as museums and publications.

Depuis Décembre 2008, je suis dans la coordination d'un projet de recherche
(avec plusieurs étudiants de l' UFPE), qui a pour principal but donner plus
de visibilité à près de 3000 objets ethnographiques de la Collection Carlos
Estevão de Oliveira du Musée de l'Etat de Pernambuco (en savoir plus sur la

Nous sommes em train faire la numérisation de la collection (objets,
documents et photographies) et disponibiliser la collection en ligne dans le
Musée Virtuel, qui vous pouvez consulter sur ce site:
http://www.ufpe.br/carlosestevao. Récemment on a finit de numériser la
plupart des photos de la collection (environ 1.200) pour être aussi
disponibles dans ce musée virtuel. Beaucoup de ces photographies sont de
Curt Nimuendaju, et ceux-ci peuvent être identifiés immédiatement, parce
Nimuendaju avait une précision de l'identification de leurs photos.
Toutefois, il existe un nombre important de photos qui ne sont pas
identifiés. Nous pouvons imaginer des lieux et l' année à partir du matériel
photographique. Il ya des images qui date de 1909 à 1947. Par conséquent,
nous avons décidé de créer un blog, avec une centaine de ces photos. Nous
fournissons pour vous pour donner votre avis et des commentaires, et
peut-être identifier, enfin nous donner un indice ... etc .. Ceci est un
outil d'identification, car sans doute, vous devriez déjà conaïtre certaines
de ces photos dans des endroits tels que les musées et les publications.
