Also, it seems to me that the Lippi-Green article about Disney characters
covers some gender issues. I don't have the full cite in front of me, but
it is an excellent article.

Alma Graham has a chapter "The Making of a Nonsexist Dictionary" in Thorne
& Henley, 1975, _Language and Sex_ in which she did word counts in
children's books - pronoun counts for example - and found more references
to males than females. This was in the context of making some changes to
the _American Heritage Dictionary_.
