Just a brief comment: You don't have to involve lawyers to set up a
nonprofit; I've done it twice, without difficulty or complications.  The
forms to be filled out are very simple, and all you do is submit them with
the organization's by-laws. Certainly if GALA-L has the good fortune to be
gifted with substantial funding, a lawyer will be needed -- but not just to
get underway.
