As far as I can remember, so far no one has commented on the idea of having
an executive committee, and at the end of the 6 months, elections are
planned for such a committee.

However, given the projected nationality/ethnicity, disciplinary, and
philosophical/theoretical diversity of individuals to be connected with
GALA, I think that a different structure might help ensure democratic
representation while maintaining committee size small enough to make the
practical matter of making decisions workable.

Advisory committee - varied larger percentage of members may be
*established* faculty/researchers (independent and institution-affiliated);
perhaps 3 or 5 established, 2 early career faculty/researcher; odd number
either way: 5 or 7. Their role would be to critique and advise only.  Their
communication is with the steering committee.

Steering committee - key element of membership: a really good mix of
individuals in every respect.  With the input of the advisory and executive
committees, they determine the directions, policies, etc. of GALA.

Executive committee - members with some management and organizational
experience.  In charge of running GALA.

In practical terms, each committee would have its own listserv group  in
order for members to communicate with each other.  A separate listserv
group could be set up for communication between the advisory and steering
committee; another separate listserv for communication between the steering
and executive committee.  And, of course, a listserv group for the all
members, managed by the executive committee.
