grammatical gender: request for information

Dear all,
Can anybody recommend a text (book, article, etc) on gender
as a grammatical category? I am interested in Classical Greek,
in particular, but would also like to read something general
on the history/development of the idea of gender as a grammatical
category. All suggestions gratefully received,
