LAST CALL FOR PAPERS FOR EPICS II
Dear colleagues,
The research group Intercultural Pragmatic Studies
(English-Spanish): Pragmatic and Discourse Aspects of
the University of Seville (Spain) is pleased to
announce its Second Symposium on Intercultural,
Cognitive and Social Pragmatics (EPICS II
Encuentros de Pragmática Intercultural, Cognitiva y
Social), to be held in May 26-28 2004.
The second edition of the symposium will be devoted to
the introduction of the new journal Intercultural
Pragmatics, published by Mouton de Gruyter. The
journals editor-in-chief, Dr. Istvan Kecskes,
Professor of Linguistics and Education at the SUNY at
Albany and Mr. Peter Grundy, Associate Principal
Lecturer, English Language Centre, at Northumbria
University, and member of the advisory board of the
journal, have confirmed their presence as the
symposiums keynote speakers. Also, a plenary session
of the symposium will be dedicated to a formal
introduction of Intercultural Pragmatics during
which the participants will be able to meet the
editor-in-chief, some of the board members, and
representatives from Mouton the Gruyter to discuss the
mission, policy and content of the journal.
The Symposium will serve as a forum where applied
linguists and practitioners of Pragmatics and
Discourse Analysis can meet, share experiences,
discuss common problems, and present papers on their
latest research in the field. EPICS II also wishes to
create awareness among graduating students of the
growing interest in this area of linguistic expertise.

theoretical developments and practical applications in
the fields of second language acquisition and
