Gender, language, & global processes

In response to Amy: the "call center" example was just one example
out of the blue, I'm not *particularly* interested in call
centers. What I want to write is a (short) "state of the art"
piece. What do we know about, and should be asking, the intersection
language, gender, and global processes? If a researcher has
demonstrated that we can learn something about this intersection by
studying the caller's experience or the trouble that arises in the
interaction, then I'd be interested in learning about that piece of
