Dear all,

At the 18th Lavender Languages and Linguistics conference, to be held at American University (Washington, D.C.) on February 11-13 2011, a number of sessions are currently under development. Many of these will be of interest to members of IGALA. They can be found at: http://www.american.edu/cas/anthropology/lavender-languages/, where the contact details for the session organisers are also provided.

Included in the list is the session 'Sociocultural linguistic approaches to queer identities', a panel that I am currently organising. In their ground-breaking paper, Bucholtz and Hall (2004) describe queer linguistics as that work which utilises theories from feminism, queer theory and sociolinguistics in order to analyse sexuality as a broad sociocultural phenomenon. The panel considers research from this perspective, welcoming papers specifically concerned with the linguistic construction of queer identities within interaction.

Please get in touch with me directly at lucy.jones at edgehill.ac.uk if you would like more information about the conference generally or this panel specifically, or if you would like to submit an abstract. The deadline for proposals is Monday November 15th, 2010 - I realise that this is a short turn-around, so please feel free to send me just an outline or proposal (rather than a final abstract) by this date.

Many thanks,

Lucy
