Course description:
This InterGender course will focus on the intersections of gender, ethnicity, sexuality and social class with science knowledge, practices, and learning. In doing so, the course explores how gender, science and learning are interrelated, and how they shape each other in dynamic and complex ways. The course is divided into two strands, where the first strand introduces feminist critiques of science and the second strand focuses on identity perspectives on science learning. The first strand will discuss seminal and contemporary perspectives on feminist science studies (by authors such as Donna Haraway, Evelyn Fox Keller and Karen Barad), thereby engaging in a critical discussion of how science is a producer of meaning and materialities. The second strand will provide students with an overview of contemporary research examining issues of identity in relation to educational and vocational science practices, from different perspectives.
