This is a massive shock. Debbie was absolutely in the forefront of gender and language study. All her books have been hugely important in my own teaching and research. I can't imagine writing anything in the area and not citing her.

I am very glad to have watched her plenary in Montevideo in July.

Dear all,
I have been asked to share the shocking news of Professor Deborah Cameron’s death with the IGALA community. Debbie was diagnosed with cancer just before Christmas and passed away yesterday, 20th January, in Oxford.
I will not attempt to capture Debbie’s life or work in this brief email – no doubt there will be many tributes to come – but her research has been foundational to the field of Gender and Language, and continues to be of enormous influence to many students and scholars working in our field. I offer my condolences to Debbie’s family, friends and colleagues.
With best wishes,
Lucy
