Dear all,
I would like to share a petition with this community against compulsory
redundancies in Translation and Interpreting at the University of
Birmingham.

In June 2026, the University of Birmingham placed me and four other
colleagues, specialists in Arabic, Chinese, and Italian (and two of us
doing research on feminist translation), at risk of compulsory redundancy
after announcing the closure of the MA in Translation and the MA in
English-Chinese Interpreting.

This is a University whose Vice-Chancellor told the British Academy SHAPE
conference on 4 March that the closure of language courses across the
country is “a national catastrophe”.

If you want to support us, please sign and share the petition below.

For anyone who would like further context, the fuller Birmingham UCU
statement is here:

Thank you very much in advance for your support.

Best wishes,
Michela Baldo
