Scandinavia occurs in many forms among
the classical writers. According to Svennung
it derives from the incorrect form Scandinavia
in bad manuscripts of Pliny the Elder's _Historia
Naturalis_. The good manuscript have Scadinavia.
In Mela it is corrupted to Codanovia. Later writers
use more or less corrupted versions: Scathanavia,
Scadan etc.
