In the previous treatment of this subject, didn't it come up that the most
likely etymon was the Latin non spiratus, meaning "not having breathed [sc.
its last breath]" i.e. not dead?
It's a tricky issue, what to do with "international words"... I prefer
to use calques, and borrow unly from Greek or Latin where possible...

ps. Regarding SCA titles- the normal word for King is not in fact reiks, but
thiudans (compare Theoden in Tolkein)... I don't know offhand how one would
translate any of the other title though.
