As I explained in an earlier post, Greek sources spell the name Oulphilas
(normally Latinized to Ulphilas), which almost certainly represents a Gothic
*Wulfila "little wolf," which would be declined as a weak masculine. This
form is not attested anywhere (to my knowledge) but just makes sense.
Wulfilas is right out because it's a combination of the Gothic phonology with
the Greek morphological ending!
