[gothic-l] Re: (me again!) Crimean Gothic....

I cannot see how Vasil'ev's suggestion that the Crimeans that the 
Flemish ambassador met could have been Jews or Germans would make him 
an Anti-Semite or Anti-German. Both Jews and Germans lived probably
in 
considerable numbers on the Crimea at that time. Note, a series of 
Tatar raids on East Prussia are recorded since the 15th century (the 
last big raid was in 1654). Each time the Tatars took many Germans 
back to the Crimea as slaves. (By the way I am German myself and I 
don't find Vasilev's writing offensive at all).
