[gothic-l] John 1:24-31

Having just come out of a period of hard and desperate study, and
finding myself with a lot of spare time at my disposal, I thought I
should go on with the reconstruction of John's Gospel. I had stopped
around verse 23, if I remember well.

24 jah insandidai wesun af Farisaiim.
25 jah frehun ina jah qeþun imma: duhve nu daupeis jabai nist* þu sa
Xristus nih Helias nih sa praufetus?
26 andhof im Iohannes qiþands: ik daupja in waton, midjo standiþ in
izwis** þanei jus ni kunnuþ,
27 sa afar mik qimands, þizei nim ik wairþs ei lausjau is skaudaraip
skohe.
28 þata in Beþaniin warþ, hindar Iaurdanu þarei was Iohannes
daupjands.
29 iftumin daga saihviþ Iesu qimandan du imma jah qiþiþ: sai, sa ist
wiþrus gudis, saei afnimiþ frawaurht þizos manasedais***.
30 sa ist bi þanei ik qaþ: afar mik qimiþ wair saei faur mik warþ unte
fruma mis was.
31 ikuh ni kunþa ina, ak ei bairhts waurþi Israela, duþe qam ik in
waton daupjands.

*The Greek text has no verb here, but I feel _nist_ is most solid and
elegant in this case.

**Greek _mesos umwn_  "among you". I wasn't able to find an ad hoc
wulfilian equivalent. My rendering of this passage is modelled on the
German version.

***This passage is attested, Skeireins 1:3.
