Dear listmembers,
At least in sources on 267 AD it is stated that Eruli and
Goths were involved in heavy raids in Asia Minor,
the Aegean and Greece (Synkellos (c. 800) and Zonaras
(c. 1100). Some sources call all naval raiders Goths, other
use the term Scythians and there is of course no doubt
concerning Dexippos, who calls them Goths.
Synkellos: "The Heruli with 500 ships...sailed to the Pontos,
took Byzantium and Chrysoopolis...and reaching Attica they
attacked Athens, Corinth, Sparta and Argos and overran
all achaia until the Athenians, ambushing them in rough
terrain, destroyed most of them." (Ecloga Chronographica,
p. 467).
Both Eruli and the Goths lived on the Black Sea in 267 AD.
Gothically
